Poetry can and should be an important
part of our daily lives. Poems can inspire and make us think about what it
means to be a member of the human race. By just spending a few minutes reading
a poem each day, new worlds can be revealed. Poetry is important because it
gives teenagers a safe medium to express their thoughts and feelings. Poetry
helps your body release tension...it helps you relax your mind.
Poetry helps to study English, to learn how to write, read and
understand any text. So, it helps us to study English better and in more
interesting way. Poetry unites our classroom community while practicing in
speaking and reading in English. If you don’t like reading essays, poetry can
become a gateway to other forms of writing. Students can learn how to utilize
grammar in their own writing by studying how poets do. When pupils practice in
writing poems themselves, they have a healthy outlet for surging emotions and improve
their English greatly.
My Dear Ukraine
My dear Ukraine,
How lovely you are!
Your golden fields, plains
That I can see far.
I close my eyes
And I clearly see
Ukrainian people
Are happy and free.
They want to live in peace.
They don’t want to fight.
Don’t hinder them, please,
Our wings need a flight!
My mother’s songs,
My father’s smile…
They come to my mind
Not often, sometimes.
Walks in the forests,
Picnics outside
Relatives, friends
Are very kind.
Let’s live without war,
Let’s be good neighbours!
What is it for?
Quarrels don’t make you famous!
My heart
My heart is a very
Unusual thing.
It’s not only an organ
That beats quicker in spring.
It’s a wonderful place
Where my family lives.
And there’s some space
For my friends and a niece.
My Motherland lives
In my little heart,
A feeling that gives
Energy to my blood.
How can these things
All be in here?
I think it’s a miracle
That lives with us near.
A Wonderful Walk in Kyiv
I saw the oldest ancient church
In Kyiv at weekend.
I walked along the streets in search
Of a famous fairy land.
This land was called KyivanRus,
It saw the oldest times,
The fire, merchants, princes, rulers
And people who were baptized.
Kyi, Shchek,Khoriv sailed down the Dnieper
In a boat with their sister.
They saw the picturesque green banks,
Admired and built a city.
The strong great Dnieper was a friend,
As it gave food and water.
It helped to its development,
But also greatly altered.
The river Dnieper caused much trouble
Destroying crops and houses.
But Kyiv grew in stone and marble
So sunny and full of flowers.
The past and present live in Kyiv
So closely side by side.
You ,children, love, defend your country –
Your ancestors advised.
A tale
A sly chameleon lives in a cave.
This cave is dark and deep.
A little dragon was so brave
(I’ll tell you, if you don’t want to sleep).
The dragon’s name, I think, was Tom.
And he was white and sad.
He asked chameleon to help
And make him happy and red.
Chameleon said ‘I’ll help you, dear.
But be so much polite.
You mustn’t boast, it’s very clear
And don’t forget to be kind.
Remember all the polite words
And maybe then afterwards
I’ll make you happy and red.
And then you won’t be sad.
But the dragon wasn’t polite.
Sometimes he was very rude.
So his head became red, his legs became white
And the dragon was in bad mood.
Tom went to his friends
And they were surprised,
They wondered and asked him ‘Why?”
Tom answered them soon
“I wasn’t polite, but now I became wise”.
How to write a poem
Sometimes poems are
made up in your mind
But if you want
to put a pen to paper
It’s rather
difficult the proper word to find
And you think
that’s a waste of labour.
Think about a
cat and the rhyme is a rat.
Think about the
Internet and the rhyme is net.
Think about
rhymes and make a collection of them
And play such a
game as often as you can.
Read the famous
poems by a well-known writer
And study the
ways in which he wrote his thoughts.
Learn the theory
and collect your findings
And write the
poems carefully, of course.
There’s no
advice how to write a verse,
And don’t think
about the yellow moon at night.
If you want your
poem to be beautiful and right
You should feel
the poems as your purpose.
And know, that
talent isn’t a real talent
Without hard
work and knowledge deep.
If by nature you
really have talent
It won’t let you calmly sleep.
Sunflower
Sunflower grows
in Kharkiv Region
As a part of our
culture.
Not only as the
food for pigeons
But as a basis
for agriculture.
The fertile
soils of our land
Make him so
strong and free.
The naughty
wind’s his bosom friend
And rain gives
him to drink.
You are as
strong as our people
And freedom is
your soul.
How splendid
really to see
Sunflower fields
in gold!
Ukraine, you
really are rich
You have a lot
of treasures.
Protect, defend
your every patch
Of course,
sometimes take measures.
The treasures of
Ukraine are endless:
Its people,
nature, language
And if sometimes
you see unfriendliness
You should with all
these manage!
A poor cat
A poor cat came
to my house
And asked me for
some food.
He said ‘Meow. I
want to eat
And I am in bad
mood.”
He drank some
milk and ate some cream
And greatly
liked the cheese.
After his meal
he looked at me
And said “Let me
stay, please.
I have no house,
I have no food
And it’s so cold
at night.
I also know it
is not good
With other cats
to fight.”
So mummy let him
stay at once
And said “We’ll
find some space.
But let me only
wash your fur
And also wash
your face.”
My mother said
“We must be kind
And help who are
in need.”
So now I’ve got
a fluffy friend,
I love his “purr”
indeed!
